Who pays the piper …

Fittingly, former Wanganui mayor Chas Poynter was piped on his final journey last weekend by his loyal lieutenant, friend and former deputy Randhir Dahya. Few Watchers in the Collegiate Chapel to celebrate the life – and mourn the death – of a true son of Wanganui can have been unaware of the irony surrounding Cr Dahya’s bizarre decision to ‘do a Chas’ and make a vote-splitting run for the mayoralty this year.

Wanganui mayor Michael Laws probably managed a sly smile at the thought that he may yet have the gullible Randhir to thank for finishing the job Chas started three years ago when unnamed dark forces were alleged to have persuaded him to make the mayoralty a three way race that went to bolter Laws. He may even have toyed with the idea of giving Randhir star billing on his own billboards in the sharing, caring Vision election spirit. (Yeah right! - Ed)

The punters who did their dough on Chas and found themselves living in a city struck with an epidemic of Vision flu have had plenty of time for regrets – none more so than Randhir Dahya and the other councillors who ran in independent colours in the 2004 WDC Cup. They’ve found themselves pulling up hobbled and lame through three miserable years of fixed race meetings, while the nags from the Vision stable were mercilessly whipped into shape by their cruel owner-trainer.

So what got into Randhir’s oats, you ask, to make him run against the odds for both mayor and councillor, and risk not even making it to the weigh in for either race?

The answer, from the horse’s mouth, is apparently a Faustian Bargain struck by Randhir with Wanganui’s very own Beezlebub.

As the Vision ring-ins have discovered over the past three long years, the old idiom is true: Who pays the piper calls the tune. And we are grateful to the anon who spilt the beans about Randhir’s bargain here on August 24:

Randhir had a long chat with Laws and they agreed that Randhir didn’t have a chance of winning but would be a serious vote-splitter. So Laws told Randhir that if he would run and fulfil this function, Laws would step down and hand the mayoralty over to Randhir after the election.

This came from the horse’s mouth and illustrates just how thick Randhir is in two ways. (a) He apparently believed Laws after seeing him in action for three years and (b) He told another person about the proposed ‘arrangement’. The indiscretion of (b) must have dawned on him because he has since denied the whole thing, but that is hardly surprising.

It has been said he wanted Maslin to write a story of his denial, which would have made the Chron even more mysterious reading than usual.

Thanks for that insight, anon. And wherever knowledgeable Wanganui punters gather to study form, the smart money all goes one way:

After a string of wins in previous races for council, Randhir has been saddled up by MickeyMayor for a one-way ride to the knacker’s yard as the punters punish him for trying to rig their city’s most important race.

Before you start - I AM NOT ML But I am interested in you PROVING THIS. Show us some tangible proof. In fact have it written in the Chron.

Speaking of billboards - does anyone know how the vision scumbags got away with the pre-emptive strike on the supposedly out-of-bounds billboard areas?

Oh, don't answer that!

Anonymous said...

So, 'I AM NOT ML' @ 6.47 - you surely know that having something WRITTEN IN THE CHRON, esp by Mr Maslin, GUARANTEES IT NOT TO BE TRUE.

Since you seem to think you have some insider information here, if YOU ARE NOT ML, are you suggesting that YOU ARE RD? Because it's not rocket science, and RD is certainly not a rocket scientist which is why, presumably, he hasn't been able to keep from blowing his bagpipes about the offer he couldn't refuse from I-AM-NOT-ML!

Chas seemed to have won some sort of forgiveness by virtue of the fact that he got so sick so soon (and the residual respect and goodwill he accrued over Moutoa Gardens etc). Randhir however has been a joke for years as the ultimate fence-sitter and hollow ego so he won’t be forgiven and it’s unlikely the eulogies will be flowing for him after he’s given the fingers to Wanganui like this.

Why would you try getting anything honest printed in the Wanganui Chronicle. They pick and choose their stories and even then they are one sided.

And those bill boards, don't they look disgusting, jammed up to take every bit of available space. Maybe the concil need to put a limit on how many should be there.

Another apt idiom to describe Randhir's barmy behaviour:

THERE'S NO FOOL LIKE AN OLD FOOL!

A wee gem at the top of the Sunday Star Times letters today:

“Never have I seen a more apt description of Michael Laws than the one he used in his (predictably) sneering attack on others who throw their hat into the ring of local body politics: “ex-MPs who have parlayed their previous notoriety into a lucrative pastime”.
Did he even realise the hilarious irony as he wrote this? And just to clear up one other point – he thinks “maybe” he has “unhealthy does of narcisissim”. No doubt ab out it, mate.

If narcissism was measured on a scale from one to 10, he’d be exploding out the top and trying for 12. Please Wanganui, show this arrogant little man the door.”

Can I also ask the same question.
Has it been put to RD? Only place I've heard any mention of this (on or off the streets) is here.
Has LW based their latest on anons comments or something else? This is a massive accusation and should be backed up with something som that would be RD voters know the real story.

Perhaps Mickey & Randhir could put up a joint comment to the blog explaining why Randhir was going around parlaying such scandalous stories.

Gawd Mickey, people all round NZ (and beyond these shores) have had a gutsful of you popping up every five minutes under the Mayor of Wanganui banner to air your pathetic prejudices and stupid nastiness. Of course everyone wants to strip you of that little headline ticket.

As for your laughably hypocritical sunday crap every week, N Hager is simply reflecting the views of everyone with half a brain (probably even the halfway brainless editor)

Don't presume to speak for Wanganui - there's a growing slice of Wanganui which doesn't share you likes.

The man from Wellington has a point.

77% of Wanganui think the mayor and his councillors are doing a "good" or "excellent" job.
(independent survey)
So WHO exactly is out of step???

Anonymous said...

What "independent" survey is that, Mickey? You surely don't mean the one that a councillor staffer confirmed was done by a company associated with and recommended by the mayoress, and that poached questions from the authentic survey and massaged the results, do you?

ie it's about as "independent" as Nicky Higgie and NigelWho!

PS: Haven't you got anything better to do on a lovely day like this than sit around spreading lies on this blog? Don't you need some quality time with your wonderful family or something?

Anonymous said...

Who's RD?????????

Anonymous said...

77% think Laws is doing a good job- on what???? Since I last posted I have actually found 2 people that like Laws- thats out of large numbers of people Ive spoken to. Interestingly most are well aware of the very poor performance of LB and are insensed and Laws is coping the back lash of that as well. This election is going to be very very interesting.

77% support is about as true as the 1.7% rates increase.

Saying it repetitiously doesn't make it true.

Take cover Mickey - the A.G. is gonna get ya!

With some trepidation, due to the fact that this comment might actually alter the self serving behaviour of the vision party (pun intended)and our inglorious mayor, lets see which candidates are actually beating the feet around Wanganui over the next few weeks and talking to the average punter; asking the questions and actually listening to what they hear.
We know that ML does some hard yards but this is only to sustain his libido - he doesn't actually stop to talk to people below his station.
As for the other visions noires, I doubt they would get a scuff on their soles over the next few weeks. Perhaps a party here and there but no hard yards for sure.

Funny which is the only group of candidates with a series of public meetings planned in every suburb and the rural areas? Which is the only group that did this last election and had amazing support for the fact they got out with the public? Which group got elected with a significant level of support and hold the majority because MOST people like what they are doing.

Where is the reasoned debate regarding the up coming election.
Seems that ML upholds the election guidelines by not posting on the WDC website and everything dies.

Do we really need to wait for him to say something before we jump on it?

Come on guys, where's the smart money? What do we think of this Health First? Anybody knwo anything about these new Vision candidates?

Is there any truth in this stuff about Randhir in the previous post?

That would be because they are strictly window dressing. They should be required to wear large VSs (for vote splitter) on their backs for the duration of the campaign, or perhaps sweaters with 'Mickey's Little Helpers' would do the trick.

He advertising looks so much more contemporary than the stale old vision imagery. Plus he's younger than laws isn't he? He looks it anyway

Looks aren't everything though. Poor Mickey is also handicapped by a truly psychopathic personality!

He really should be looking at the equivalent of the broken toe excuse about now .. ie "I know I'm on a hiding to nothing so I'll pretend I've got a broken toe and go for the sympathy vote."

The election equivalent:

"I know I've stuffed up so badly by abusing everybody that I can't win the election, so I'll admit I'm a psychopath and see if I can get a sympathy vote for that!"

Best of British, Mickey, old chum!

Wow! I just saw the John Martin videos - they're great. Just shows what happens when you don't go out of your way like ML does to piss off the arts community. Bet he wishes he had that sort of talent backing him instead of the tired old wannabe Nigel Morris.

Mickey created a loophole for himself and his puppets by declaring it OK to plant the poles for the billboards before the permitted time for the signs to go up.

Hey, if you’re King of Wanganui you can do this sort of thing.

Does anyone here besides Mickey, Dave and Mas realize that the public are invited to only ONE of the four celebrations of our capital projects? The rest are invitation only.

That’s $28,260 of our money, minus the cost of some ice creams and clowns, which will go to entertain the chosen ones and promote His Ugliness and the five blind mice. I wonder if the new litter of blind mice will be invited.

Any of you Watchers got your invitations yet?

How's this for a blatant political point scoring attempt - absolutely nothing to do with Council business - just Vision politicising.
See the NOW TOTALLY HIJACKED BY VISION WANGANUI DC WEB SITE:

Media Releases
Dot McKinnon new Chair of Masters Games Company - 06/09/07
Wanganui's Deputy Mayor Dot McKinnon was yesterday elected as Chair of the New Zealand Masters Games Company.........(blah blah blah blah)
"Keeping the job of chairman in Wanganui gives us significant input into the direction of the company. We are looking at ways of growing the Games Company, enhancing our brand and securing more sponsorship from corporate New Zealand. That will be my mandate as Chair."

THERE ARE OBVIOUSLY NO INTEGRITY OR SCRUPLES IN THIS SLIMEY VISION OUTFIT - THEY PUT IT ON THE PUBLIC SERVER WHICH WE PAY FOR BECAUSE NOBODY WOULD WANT TO VISIT THEIR SERVER.

Perhaps. The disgusting little pervert probably thinks that way. Says a lot about his character.

One area the worthless loon hasn't "got the jump" is Victoria Avenue. Someone's done a great job of getting John Martin posters into shop windows. Very effective eye level advertising.

If the disparity between Council's corrupt survey and Vision's own polling is as wide as some say, that could work very much against Mickey. Getting out the vote will be harder if his supporters believe he's a shoe-in.
