On the rocks

Made most famous by Ella Fitzgerald (but covered, bizarrely, by Bananarama) is a little ditty which goes:

Oh 't ain't what you do it's the way that you do it
'T ain't what you do it's the way that you do it
'T ain't what you do it's the way that you do it
That's what gets results
Obviously that was never amongst the bedtime lullabies crooned over Mickey's crib or, if it was, the message never imprinted. Because even when he occasionally gets the right idea - things that are pretty much indisputable, like hospital services need fixing, or the port's a mess - it's the way that he sets about dealing with the issues that upsets and offends so many people.

First, by claiming that all or some of the people presently in charge are incompetent (usually adorned with unsubtle implications of corruption or mismanagement) rather than decent people doing their level best to deal with situations which can't be solved within the space of a talkback soundbite.

So it is with the Port of Wanganui. It's hardly in first class condition when the Coast Guard have to point out that they can't launch their boat at certain times of the day. Commercial users are also less than impressed. Were this almost any other town or city in New Zealand the majority of people wouldn't feel any alarm at all at the prospect of the entire operation coming back under Council control.

But this isn't another town, it's Wanganui, where two years of divisive "leadership" has seen Council shed senior staff like a turkey sheds feathers at this time of year; which has proven itself incapable of building a swimming pool without it turning into a money pit; and which cannot be relied upon to be truthful about anything, ever, unless the truth coincidentally suits whatever the Mayoral agenda happens to be.

Something needs to be done about the port. On that much we agree with Mickey. But 't ain't what he does, it's the way that he does it.

What, Lawswatch, yet another post saying "Michael Brian Laws is an asshole, a prize prick"???

We alreay know that. Let's face it, the tiny little tosser just today blamed his own staff for the Chronicle's toxic blunder in the name and shame department.

And the blame seems to be pointing at the IT department...

A pathetic posting, LawsWatch. no insight into council decision-making, no new information, no scoops. we all had great hope for this blog when it started but the point of this posting?
Is the council right or wrong - is it throwing good money after bad - is it better to have a council-owned asset than a private sector lease?
Surely that all the port users support Laws and publicly says something?
We know its Christmas but lift your game or cease to be relevant.

Mickey says:
“Meanwhile, council chief executive David Warburton will report to the council meeting on Monday, December 18, about the next steps for the plane trees in Victoria Avenue near the Buzz Bar. He is expected to report that only two trees require to be removed, rather than the original five.”

********
“After the staff grovelling for Mickey on the fast food f—kup, can we now look forward also to Dr Wartbum's apology for this piece of Mickey-driven shite?”.

Night night Mickey. It's bedtime now so lift your game, sunshine, cos you're less than relevant to the thinkers here at this blog, let alone the wider population of Wangas..

Wanganui's rebranding "extraordinarily cheap" - 12/12/06
One could say it just goes to show that you get what you pay for … but since this is MickeyVille, it’s more like, “you get what Mickey shoves down your throat”.

What BS from the 10pm poster -
If the council was given FALSE info by its staff at a council meeting then why shouyldnt the pollies get upset?

Yet another posting from some idiot that 'everything the mayor does is wrong'. Thats why this blog is shit and not intelligent enough to do the job of a crusading blog.

OK dickhead (yeah you LawsWatch).
What's your solution for the Port? Haven't got one, have you?
Eff off.

In response to 10:06pm, have we been told what excuse they are using for the removal of the two trees.

They had better be good.....those trees are valued by a great many people in Wanganui and even people lacking the imagination to worry about them coming down notice the devaluation of the Avenue after they are gone.

Every time a tree comes down there go a few more votes for Vision, and jumping ship isn't going to help Nickie.

Goodness, someone's rusks got stuck on the way through today.

Our solution, you twat, is quite simple. Bring in some people who know how to run a port. But since you are incapable of inference and need to have everything explained to you as one would a backward child, just to clarify, such people are:
a) not those in charge at present, and
b) certainly not, by any stretch of the imagination, Mickey or any of the new boys network.

Oh, like a lame duck Mayor who's been shamed from seeking a second term, you mean?

Since you're too thick to understand this basic point, how come it's always someone elses fault other than Mickey's? Any leader worthy of the name would take the blame on the chin. Not our Mickey, oh no.

If he hadn't been in such an indecent hurry to make political capital over the fact that some eateries passed the food hygiene regs, he wouldn't be stuck looking like an asshole. But he was, and he does, and if you think the general population of Wanganui will make a distinction between Mickey's incompetence and Council's, you're a moron. But we already knew that too, from your support for the zero credibility clown.

The mayor would piss in if he stood again unlike the fuckwits who contribute this blog.
And isn't Laws standing for both council AND DHB? Doesn't sound like he's diluting his influence to me.
It's the collective lack of guts that makes LawsWatch such a circle wank because no-one here will stand for either.

Dotty dripped:

"we, once again, need a declaratory judgement from the Courts as to the status of Museum staff. Why this issue has taken so long to surface is quite beyond me."

Let me see now, Dotty. The issue has only surfaced at all because of a certain self-aggrandising loony. Can you guess who he is? His initials are MBL.

Gosh, so despite the anonymity of posters and commenters, you know everyone who contributes.

So... if you know them... maybe they know you! Quick, pull the covers over your head, anon, they're all pointing and laughing!

Ive noticed that this blog has descended into derision - every blogger is sworn at or derided by another.

Is that what you were thinking when you started it LW?

Ditto this obsession with Michael Laws. It is almost as if all the posters secretly love him, or want him as their friend.

The Castlecliff beach & museum stories in the Chron this morning have one thing in common: that the mayor has the backing of all his councilors (Vision & non-Vision) and that they are all involved in the Port legal action too.

Which means that LawsWatch's problems arent just with the mayor but the whole council.

Anonymous said...

Today is another day the mayor dominates the front page of the Chronic. The new editor is now in place so do we know anything about him/her?
LW, can you do somne research on him/her?

And derision is what you deserve. It's a bit like the little boy who cried wolf. When Mickey was leaning out of the window at the end of the debate shouting abuse at the two fat ladies, he asked for this.

Toxicity will out; Mickey knows this from his (admittedly inadequate) potty training.

Well, if the definition of a "fuckwit" (can't you people come up with your own pejorative terms?) is someone who wouldn't make a successful politician, I'm happy to accept the label. Let's face it, successful politicians are one of the lowest forms of life on the planet. Apart from lawyers and unsuccessful politicians like Mickey, that is.

But I agree he'd piss into something - the man seems completely incontinent in that regard.

Wonder if ML has it written into his contract with Radio Dead that he makes frequent postings to this blog whenever there's a quiet moment on the airwaves, ie 8.59, 9.33 and 10.10.

Oh well, it's rumoured he's sniffing round the Auckland mayoralty in order to try and boost his radio ratings. Maybe we should all be getting ourselves on the Auckland roll and voting for him up there. That way he might get 2.0001%.

Anonymous said...

Mickey does it again!! He’s the only mayor to win a year-end award on Eating Media Lunch, along with other New Zealand plonkers and twats for that simply extraordinary display of gross idiocy on TV3 outside Guyton St the day of the Tonga protest.

“Seeing Laws squirming with embarrassment was priceless” as he tried to bullshit his way through Ray Stevens was what won our mayor yet another moment of derision and ridicule on national tv.

Keep it up, Mickey, we’re so proud to have your as our mayor!

+++++++

One can’t presume to speak for the blog “owners” but it would be no surprise that any blog frequented by Michael Laws would inevitably be laced with his indiscriminate and constant abuse, would it?

Anonymous said...

It's very quiet in here this weekend ... but then ML is presumably otherwise engaged trying to prevent a second annual trainwreck on St John's Hill.

Anonymous said...

As if seeing Mickey dick himself again over the Tonga protest on TV3 wasn't enough, it was disconcerting to hear him screaming foul-mouthed neo-Nazi stuff in a National Radio MediaWatch clip replayed from his talkback week this morning.

To paraphrase his racist diatribe against South Auckland ("it should be dynamited") and its citizens ("shouldn't be allowed to infect the rest of the country") its a pity that this sort of Radio Dive hate speech is allowed to infect the rest of NZ.

Thanks to the commenter at 9.43pm yesterday for your contribution. Unfortunately it's too long to run in the blog format but you make some good points which we'll try to incorporate in future posts.

Ideally comments should be no longer than about 100 words.

It's never a surprise when the Mayor of Wanganui messes himself. Sad but true.

You people are such cowards.
None of you will ever achieve half of what michael Laws has and none of you will ever achieve what he has done for Wanganui.
Are your lives so pitiful that shouting abuse at eachother about a third person makes you happy? Don't answer because we already know.
What are you gouing to do when ML and his team get re-elected to council? Get 'Alice' onto him again?

Anonymous said...

South Auckland should be dynamited if all the violence/child abuse/murder/gang statistics are any indication.

Did everyone see Eating Media Lunch? Suppose it is more the Youth Councils type of programme, very amusing, no wonder he lost a lot of support.

In reply to the person with the shabby vocabulary who commented at 4:34pm on the 14th, Laws is only running for council because the poll Vision commissioned in the spring indicated that Wanganui voters will reject him if he runs for the mayoralty. Why he thinks he’ll do any better on council or the DHB is a mystery. I'm betting the council and DHB announcements have more to do with desperation because Vision rats are leaving the sinking ship than anything else. He simply may not be able to find any more mugs who want their names associated with his own or that of his party.

Nicki Higgie has let it be known that she is considering running as an independent next time. Fat lot of good that will do, Nickie. Toxic is toxic – you have not done yourself, or anyone except Laws proud, and no one will forget that.

Mickey "today welcomed the announcement that Inspector Duncan MacLeod has been appointed as Wanganui Police Area Commander."

However, the lying low-life failed to use the opportunity to apologise for lying to Wanganui about Sam Hoyle, who Mickey implied would be coming back. With the Pep obviously not coming back either, she might consider that if she wants to regain some of the mana she has lost by associating herself with a low-life, she should now resign. Or has Mickey's corruption infested her ethics to that extent already?

....Mayor Michael Laws today welcomed the announcement that Inspector Duncan MacLeod has been appointed as Wanganui Police Area Commander.....

What????

Can this possibly mean that Sam 'n Sue aren't returning to our fair city, Mickey? And that they never had any intention of doing so? And that they told porkies to the Chron(ic) .. no doubt at Mickey's behest.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 8:16am seems a little upset. Perhaps that accounts for his/her hilarious assertion that Mickey has done anything for Wanganui. Dearie, Michael Laws only does things for himself. As for your attack on people posting here - exposing Mickey's and your lies is only one of the things we do, sweety. You mustn't let your imagination get so carried away.

To anon @ 12.21pm:

Heard that rumour but Vision commissioned no poll. Proof?
In a small town like Wangas, find one person who was polled. I asked a Vision confrere last week and she said they are polling next year closer to the event.

So, Anon, stop lying. does it make you feel better making things up?

I've read today's womans Day. It is very obvious from those photos why Laws is rejecting the mayoralty in favour of both council and DHB seats.

My God , someone in here READS Women's Day? You poor bastard, your life must be so sad....

Squealing for "proof"?
Vision didn't commission a poll. So, did they conduct a poll? Or did someone else pay for it? Darius Press, for example. A challenge to find someone who was polled is not a denial. They're polling next year. That's not a denial either.

+++++++++++++++

In an exclusive interview with Women’s Daze magazine, Wanganui mayor and wannabe celebrity Mickey Laws made the shock admission that he wasn’t too proud to use his children for cheap publicity.

“There’s only one thing I love more than my children and that’s cheap publicity,” Michael confided. “In fact I’d sell the lot of them for a Women’s Daze cover blurb – so I’m really pissed off that you haven’t given me one. Holy Crap!! What’s the point in me going through the hell of a happy family photo shoot if you bury me inside and waste your cover blurbs on losers like royal plonkers Wills and Kate, not to mention Ange’s shock interview about how she stole Brad from Jen.”

Gesticulating madly and with the faintest traces of spittle appearing at the corners of his mouth, Michael’s voice rose as he told our reporter that Leone, whom he charmingly referred to as “the Amazon” was not at all pleased about the Women’s Daze cover snub.

“I spent thousands of Radio Live dollars on plastic surgery so she could smile when we cuddled for the camera and she was entitled to believe that we’d get on the cover and send my radio ratings up by a tenth of a point. She often says that breeding little Laws is the best paid job she’s ever had but a little bit of flattery goes a long way too, you know.”

_____

Since LawsWatch is lucky enough to have our very own Forrest Gump, perhaps he can ask his Vision confrere how Mickey persuaded Pep to lie for Vision; just why Higgie is talking about standing as an independent; whether Mickey is grooming Baker Hogan rather than Dot; what Dot thinks about that etc etc ...
