Mickey must be working hard on Randhir to buy his continued stupid loyalty right now, though.
5:39 PM, August 21, 2007

and

Don't forget he's still got Randhir Dire doing his dirty work for him, including giving the pre-election rules the finger. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself, Randhir. You're fast cashing up any goodwill you've built in this town over all those years of hard graft as Mr Niceguy.
1:06 PM, August 23, 2007

Have neither of you guys heard about Randhir’s bargain?

Randhir had a long chat with Laws and they agreed that Randhir didn’t have a chance of winning but would be a serious vote-splitter. So Laws told Randhir that if he would run and fulfil this function, Laws would step down and hand the mayoralty over to Randhir after the election.

This came from the horse’s mouth and illustrates just how thick Randhir is in two ways. (a) He apparently believed Laws after seeing him in action for three years and (b) He told another person about the proposed ‘arrangement’. The indiscretion of (b) must have dawned on him because he has since denied the whole thing, but that is hardly surprising.

It has been said he wanted Maslin to write a story of his denial, which would have made the Chron even more mysterious reading than usual.

Where the hell are Matt Dutton, Emma Camden and Rob Vinsen? I don't see their names amongst the nominations.

Great to see so many people standing - the awareness of council has certainly increased in the past three years, it seems.

Good to see Mas giving Mickey a head start with a nice big pic and not pointing out, as the DomPost did so well, that he's a lying creep. Keep it up Mas! Has he promised you a nice cushy job as the new spin fairy?

How interesting that you do not think Michael Laws can be fairly beaten in a democratic contest. Posters here gas on about Randhir vote splitting but if Randhir gets votes then it is because voters prefer him to John Martin, Michael Laws or any other candidate.
The "woe is us" comment confirms that LawsWatch and its posters think Laws will win and that must mean that the majority of Wanganui people support him. It is called democracy, tossers. Get used to it.

Err no, Mickey. It confirms that ONE commenter to this blog thinks the prospect of another gutter campaign by the sewer-dwelling ML is cause for lamentation.

Spooky earthquake near the start of the service for Chas at the Collegiate Chapel - Wanganui trying to shake itself free of the part time mayor (as G McD succinctly pointed out) maybe?

Re Chas's funeral - it was a relief to everyone that someone (family presumably) had the guts to stand up to Laws and gag him.

If there was ever any thought that he might be able to use the pulpit he certainly pooped on that with his Wikitoria grandstanding and nastiness during the week.

would be important to have more comments from those who attended chas.` funeral

Woe isn’t me. I have been on the phone solidly for the past week looking for that fabled Laws/Vision support and it has so far eluded me. What I have got, from high and low, east and west, up and down is that people have had quite enough of Mickey.

Anonymous said...

To anon at 4.13pm: sure you have.
Laws will steamroll all over you little people. Is that slavish adherence or is that a lot at all the polls conducted over recent months. You work it out, dimwit.
On the funeral: Mcdoull made no mention of anyone except to welcome the mator and councilors. No representative from the government or from the iwi - they keep their grudges after Chas stood up to them over Moutoa.

Why does the rest of the country think that ML is a joke? If he gets re-elected, Wanganui will again be the laughing stock of the country.

I think ha, ha, ha, the saddest joke is coming, rather than tick, tick, tick...

The only support Laws has left is in Castlecliff and the younger people who listen to his crap on the radio. Prediction -Laws is about to be run out of town along with his partner now working in Wellington- part time Mum but definately not part time Health board. Interestingly it is very hard to find anyone prepared to own up to voting for him last time .

Anonymous said...

For the record, members of Whanganui Iwi did attend the funeral for Chas Poynter. They included the Chair of the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board,Archie Taiaroa, the Chair of the Tamaupoko Runanga Barney Haami, and the son of the man Chas was proud to call a friend,Niko Tangaroa, there were many others present as well.
A larger group of Whanganui Iwi also paid their respects to Chas the previous night in a three hour ceremony and were joined by the family.
I agree with the previous poster, please do not denigrate the passing of a previous mayor by using his death to prove a point for either side

Anonymous said...

Thanks anonymous @ 1.58pm for clarifying that ... obviously the anony'mator'has been back here (@4.59)spreading his lies and bullshit.

Anonymous said...

ML respected the passing of Chas, so why doesn't LW - leave Chas out of this blog it is nothing to do with him. Let him rest in peace now.

Anonymous said...

If all the posters are correct then Michael Laws cannot win the mayoralty election, the Vision Wanganui team cannot win a council seat and ML and LB cannot win a health board seat.
If all that is true and no-one in the whole of Wanganui will admit to voting for Vision at the last election, then why all this energy and vitriol to unseat them.
Will not democracy just run its course and the Dreaded Menace be defeated? It will not matter whether Randhir Dahya runs as well because the villification of the mayor will eradicate his ambitions.
This is a very nice theory and if any of you reading this blog believe it then please tell me where we can get the prescription medicines that you are all on.

More lies. ML respects no thing and no one. His cheap, cynical attempt to cash in on Chas's passing and start another war with Iwi to boot was borne of the only kind of "respect" he knows, ie for his own chances in whatever his latest self-promotion game happens to be.

And the not-so-strange thing is that NO ONE respects him.

Well no actually, democracy won't get much of a look in because wherever Mickey and Democracy meet, something has to give.

In Hawkes Bay and Wellington Mickey tried to beat democracy with deceit and lies but he lost. Here in Wanganui he's had a three year run where deceit and lies have won over democracy and in the next six weeks you can be sure there will be no change to that modus operandi.bl

Poor Mickey – looks like he’s forced to spend his own money advertising in the Chron because the A-G’s guidelines are finally beginning to bite at WDC! Perhaps he’ll have to foot the bill for his electioneering “celebrations” as well.

Anonymous said...

Well Mickey you really are a tosser!

Firstly you spend a whole lot of ratepayer money to run and then to renovate an airport that hardly anybody uses and then you run off to Virgin Blue to hope they'll come here and justify your dopey decisions.

If Richard Branson thought that Wanganui was a commercially viable destination, he would already be here. Maybe you could subvert some more ratepayer funding Mickey and subsidise the Virgin Blue flights.

You really are under-qualified and over-exposed Mickey!!!!

In today’s news: Bush’s pet attorney general Gonzales resigns
So, in the world’s second most corrupt “democracy” run by the world’s second most corrupt and psychopathic “democratically elected leader,” a crooked attorney general finally walks the plank after firing staff identified as “politically unsympathetic”, stacking his staff with political sycophants and reducing morale in his organization to an all-time low.

Meanwhile, in Wanganui, Dr Wartbum just carries on regardless, doing Mickey’s orders and arranging his boss’s biggest ever electioneering rort!

Question Mickey’s right to abuse his power and privilege for cheap electioneering and predictably you get abused, as blogger Big Brad Wolf found out …
An email from Mayor Michael Laws following my complaint that it is a conflict of interest that three wannabe Mayors are on RadioLIVE... see below.

It astounds me that we live in a country where the Mayor of a city can get away with this sort of behaviour... still, I won't be living here much longer!

Big Brad Wolf also makes the good point that Radio Live is acting totally unethically by pushing its talkjocks for local govt:

He makes a good Willie Jackson has announced he is running for Mayor of Manukau while John Tamihere will be running for Waitakere City. Meanwhile, Michael Laws is incumbent Mayor of Wanganui. They are also all Radio Live talk show hosts with hours of platforming available to themselves every day. Is this wrong?

I always thought Michael Laws as a talk show host, c-grade celebrity and Mayor of Wanganui was juggling several conflicts of interest (see an earlier post). Now it seems Radio Live is branching out to get all of its hosts in positions of power. This is wrong.

In any case, their shows should also be monitored carefully - say through Media Monitors or Chongs - so that any slip-up can contribute toward reform of local council laws and stop this blatant abuse of power.

Well, the breakfast meeting part was right, but no points for accuracy on anything else. The meeting was at Dot’s flophouse not Vega and all the candidates were invited to speak. John Martin spoke very well indeed about economic development in Wanganui. Marty Lindsay read Mickey’s speech. He must have been busy with his ‘Calling All Rednecks’ radio thing. It was not well received.

Have neither of you guys heard about Randhir’s bargain?
+++

Well a week is a long time in the cesspit of Wanganui politics and Randhir must know that he's about to be dunked in the shite of a campaign that of necessity will be conducted on Mickey's terms.

Face it, Randhir is dead meat with that little time bomb sure to go off very publicly. What's he going to say? "I really really want my friend Michael to win the election and I may have piped Chas off but I really really want to be the next Chas and help deliver the town I profess to love to another three destructive and divisive years in the hands of a demonstrable psychopath.

Chas may have stuffed up big time but he can be forgiven because no one knew just how BAD Mickey would be ... and because he's deceased.

Randhir knows only too well what he's doing ... and the poor sad old bugger will have to live with it.

Whoever thought the Chronic editor had found a bit of backbone in banning letters from candidates should have been able to hear what Mickey said to her that resulted in Brookhammer's name appearing over that exquisite piece of crapola there today .. ie MickeyMouse roars, editor rolls over and plays dead. Mas & Mickey were at it again on Monday when his ugliness was allowed to say the capital projects celebrations were not meant to be perceived as Vision electioneering and that “contract delays had been responsible for the timing.”

How does this justify the Sept 4 date for the waste water plant opening? It has been up and running for some time.

The minutes of the MAY 10th Admin and Finance meeting say the Splash Centre Extension completion date was 15 Nov, but delays would push it back to the end of the year. They went on to say “By mid-October the building should look like the swimming complex designed. There will, however still be a significant amount of finishing work required.”

Back in May Mickey said “because of the timing of the Triennial elections a decision needed to be made now as a new Council would not have time to make the necessary commemoration arrangements.”

Pick ONE reason guys, and try to remember it.

Anonymous said...

Mickey's desperate attempt to cash in on the DHB reports for his own electioneering (using of course the council website) notwithstanding, they really have got to the bottom of the problem. Not surprisingly it's Mickey's old fellow headliner and fellow shit-stirrer for Vision Clive Solomon:

"The cause of that dysfunctionality was a member in the department who just didn't get on with his colleagues," says Dr Peter Schenk, referring to board member Clive Solomon who resigned as a surgeon."

Anonymous said...

Michael Laws cannot claim an ounce of credit for the wastewater interception and treatment project. It was actually Chas who agreed to take the shit out of the river and commit Wanganui to the project after the Department of Conservation and Forest & Bird kicked off the conservation order and minimum flows for the Whanganui River.
Bill Carlin (DOC), John Ombler (now SSC) and Keith Chappel from RFBPS can share the credit with the late Chas. Mickey and Vision should get zilch!

Anonymous said...

Methinks he doth protest too much me Lord Mayor....!
Interesting that our infamous mayor had so much to say on the independant enquiry into local government rating and really surprising to hear his "I told you so" comment.
The fact that he went straight to the press on the subject suggested he was once again trying to focus attention on his comments rather than the report's comments.
In fact many of the problems identified by the review are alive and well under the Michaels Laws' reign of insanity.
His media comments about the cost of of "extra" work like building consents and dog control are just crap because the council makes additional charges for all of these activities - over and above rates.
Mickey clearly doesn't realise that he has screwed up and thinks that if he tells us he's done a great job often enough that we will believe him and won't bother finding the truth.
