One night in Paris

Michael Laws, Mayor, WanganuiFollowing the startling announcement by fellow celebrity wannabe Paris Hilton that she is to voluntarily cease exercising the only skill she possesses - and the one which made her famous - for a year, Wanganui's very own celebrity Mayor, Michael Laws, has made a similar pronouncement.

"Paris managed to extend her 15 minutes of fame into a full half hour by the simple expedient of having sex with everyone imagineable," Mayor Michael told a packed press conference today, consisting of two reporters from the Chron, one who fell asleep mid-way through but returned to the office later to publish a barely-edited copy of the Mayor's press statement as his own work, and the other who could barely contain her excitement at being in the same room as someone she'd once seen on TV with Brent Todd.

"But then it got to the point where there were very few men left on the planet who hadn't had sex with Paris. I think the UN Secretary-General missed out... something to do with her getting muddled up and saying she didn't like her coffee black. But other than that, well... let's just say that Winston's recent spell in hospital wasn't unrelated, for one thing.

"The problem was, 'Paris Hilton bonks someone' is no longer a headline, even for the slothful journos at the Sunday Sensationalist," Mayor Michael said, "and they're so desperate for a headline they publish the patahlogical rantings of a rampant eugenicist. Or so I'm told. Not entirely sure who they mean... I really don't know why they even keep Frank Haden on," he muttered.

"Anyway, it's a brilliant bit of marketing. Paris has realised that not having sex with someone is the only way she can rate a headline any more. I intend taking a leaf out of her book," Mayor Michael said, before realising that Paris was extremely unlikely to have ever had a book of any description.

"Having insulted everyone from residents of Raetihi, Christchurch, Whakatane, Wellington and a host of other places large and small, racially vilified everyone from Arabs and Jews to Maori, and abused most of Wanganui personally, including those unfortunate enough to work for Council, I'm going to take a year off," he beamed. "I figure 'Mad Mayor doesn't abuse anyone' should be good for several months more publicity.

"Of course it'll mean my newspaper columns revert to endlessly boasting of my reproductive prowess. After all, how many people can say they've had kids, eh? Now there's a rare and exalted achievement for you. And my radio show... umm... well I'm not entirely sure how we'll get round that. I'm thinking I'll have Dotty as my producer, vetting calls and making sure the only people who are heard are those who agree with me. After all, she did a sterling job of that when she chaired the Code of Conduct complaints.

"That doesn't leave many people, admittedly, which is why I've drawn up this simple roster involving all councillors, Chron reporters, and Council managers, and what times they are to call.

"The TV show... well the ratings for that were worse than those for my radio program, so I think I'll give the TV away for the year, unless there's something which seriously explores the kind of isues that brought me firstly to politics and secondly, home to Wanganui. Like, say 'Dancing with the Stars on Ice while Losing Weight and learning to sing'. I'd be up for that," he announced, scanning the room for any sign of a Touchdown producer with a bag of NZ On Air cash. "Or one of those shows where you eat bugs. Yum, bugs!"

An afternoon restricted to pulling the wings off flies, burning ants with a magnifying glass and pulling faces at small children when their parents' backs were turned soon began to take its toll however, and by tea time the strain was evident as the Mayor gunned his official boy racer special up Guyton Street. Miraculously, he somehow managed to restrain himself from abusing the several elderly pedestrians he knocked down, contenting himself with reversing back over them whilst scowling wordlessly and offering a single digit greeting.

"See that?!" croaked one, believed to be connected with the local bowling club, as he was loaded into the back of an ambulance. "That's why we love Michael. Even after we'd dented his car, he still found the time to remind us that, in his mind, we're number one!"

What a steaming great pile of self-serving brown stuff in the Chronicle letter by the mayor today. Does he really expect anyone would be sucked in as he lies about his lies about his lies .... etc

Yes I'm afraid some people are fooled, however hitting on Cr Main was not a good look.

Piss weak letter in the Chron. from the "mayor" yesterday. Annette Main has won the argument, Mickey. She's cleverer than you, and it shows.

At the bottle store last night, the guy who served me was talking about how ignorant Laws is, about peanut issues specifically, but he went on to make some general remarks about the mayor tripping over his dick. Seems like a pretty "mainstream" sort of bloke to me. You should have heard the contempt in his voice, Michael.

I just pointed out that you're a fuckwit and left it at that.

'Go' that Hay guy in the paper today, poor old Laws will not beadle to contain himself! Go on bring out 'Bob the ball buster '... we all love to have a good laugh over morning coffee.

Is there any way of posting the letters to and from the Chronic re Laws on this site? It's a bit tough for those of us outside the WC readership area to keep up to date with the cut and thrust of debate and the icy sharpness of ML's repartee....

I know I shouldn't be petty and I should be thankful for the low rates rise (even though it will cripple us in a couple of years - ARE YOU LISTENING VOTERS???) but didn't Dot look rough on Close-up?

Sad, sad, sad - the losers in here with below average incomes, below average jobs and never enough guts to stand for council or any other public office because ... they're losers.

Listen to the hate in your voices for one second and try and convince yourself that you are not stalkers and lonely people who have never acieved anything in your sad pathetic lives.

*splutter* *rant* ...try and convince yourself that you are not stalkers... *insult* *ad hominen attacks*

Stalked? Mickey's not being stalked, anon. He's being mocked.

Interesting how you equate success and happiness with lots of money though. That's the kind of weird values system that, oh, say, someone who gets paid lots of money to spout risible nonsense to entertain the same people who watch "reality" TV would have, provided they were also someone whom nobody actually liked.

Anonymous said...

"Tripped over his dick" - hmmm now that sounds interesting. Things are looking up in here, so to speak.

Anonymous said...

Stalkers? In his dreams Mickey has a stalker or two. Perhaps three. In real life, however...

And what's this about "losers"? Wild assertions about income and employment levels?

When you're getting slagged off in public by everyone from nurses to accountants, from artists to builders, your bubble's burst. You keep on believing only creative people despise you, Lawsy.

Tell me though, was undermining Memo Musa your idea or did Phillipa think it up all on her own?

Well being on a below-average income pretty much excludes you from standing for council, given the expense.
And let's not forget that the majority of people in Wanganui earn less than the average wage. Still makes them ratepayeers and voters, though, doesn't it? Mind you, when did the mayor ever worry about slagging off the citizens?

You sound as negitive as Mickey, you must be a Division supporter.

So! if you are so great, what position have you stood for, how good is your salary and what is your job? What have you done for Wanganui?

For me though, I have run my own business for thirty years, reasonable income, not enough time to stand for public office, however have served many years on several committees which has helped bring many visitors to Wanganui.

Hate, Sad, looser, stalker, lonely non achiever, pathetic.

Not me anon, I live a happy positive life. I also from time to time contribute to this blog.

Maybe you have described yourself.

Good old Philippa, eh Mickey. There she goes doing your dirty work again as you stir the pot with a couple of disgrunted medicos.

Time now for you come out and say how right B-H is and the only solution is to abolish the DHB along with Horizons and for the WDC to take over the whole world and begin its glorious Fourth Reich. Or would you settle for a commissioner?

bloody hell. now i can't even write a letter? your on my planet. behave yourself.

Let's see now, the acheivements of Mickey:

There was the "acheivement" of 1.6% radio ratings.

There was the "acheivement" of having "lied grotesquely" and being forced to resign from Parliament.

There was the "acheivement" of being kicked off "Treasure Island" with a bad case of hives.

You'll be forgotten overnight, Michael. Sob.

^^^^^^

So let's get real LawsWatch, why do we give this dickhead mayor space to spread his facist racist hate here when we've all got a better future for Wanganui in our viewfinders?

Anonymous said...

The achievement of winning the mayoralty, gretting 10 of his 13 Vision candidates elected, having Vision candidates win both by-elections in 2006, lauded by the national media and MPs for leading the way in local government ...

If all of the bloggers had 10% of the guts or success of the mayor then Wangas would be a great place.

Anonymous said...

By the way, LawsWatch - the biggest crisis to hit Wanganui in decades and not a squeak on the transferral of paediatric and obstetric services to Palmy.

This is not a relevant blog if it misses that issue and has missed it for weeks. If it wasn't for Solomons, Faumui and B-Hogan then who would have noticed? All Vision candidates or supporters.

Maybe that's because they DO have a job, an above average income, national credibility and portable skills?

Anonymous said...

A shadowy picture is starting to emerge of the real reasons behind the Vision attack on Memo Musa.

It seems that some months ago Mickey put in a request to conduct experiments on twins born at the hospital. Musa refused. Hence the current situation.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Michael Laws will stand for Mayor again. Look at his record:
1. Couldn't stick around to make a difference with National.
2. Was kicked out of NZ First (although he called it an 'honourable resignation').
3. Kicked off the Hawke's Bay council (see point 2, above).
4. Couldn't hack it on Treasure Island.

When the going gets tough, Michael just goes. Away. Wanganui will be no different. If he can't win, he won't contest.

Anonymous said...

Is any body in here worried about the council cutting the numbers from 12 to 10? And how this could help the Diva and his mate's to get in again?

WHile on the subject of sex (well, kinda, see the pic accompanying the parent post) has anyone here actually read Leonie's tome of erotica? I just wondered how anyone could read of such passion knowing that it is at least partly inspired by ML....now there's a thought for strong stomachs.

Has anyone seen the blog 'Sir Humphrey's Department of unspin New Zealand'? An interesting insight to Miss Lush.

Anonymous said...

If he stands again, he'll win.
this was the blog that said Vision's Baker-Hogan & Taylor wouldn't win six months ago in the by-election & they both won comfortably.

Who would challenge him anyway? John Martin? Not in the same league.

Anonymous said...

Two tantalising comments but can we have a pointer as to how to find the relevant material on Miss Lush at Sir Humphrey's please, and what's this about the book? Is it actually on the market, if so please tell us more/

thanks anons

Anonymous said...

If it my imagination or is the mayor the only one with a plan for the maternity crisis, and who is not demanding heads be lopped off in the hospital compound?

Laws Watch said...

this was the blog that said Vision's Baker-Hogan & Taylor wouldn't win six months ago in the by-election

No, we didn't. This blog made no predictions as to the outcome. And indeed the reader poll we ran which was in two parts (1st, who will you vote for and 2nd, who do you think will win) resoundingly predicted a Baker Hogan win (we didn't poll on the Rural Community Board).

So not the blog and not it's readers. Confused, anon? Or just lying?

Michael Laws on Paying for Sex
By Lucyna @ 5:22 pm, July 23, 2006

"In fact, show me a man who has never attempted to pay for sex, and I'll show you an asexual individual. Who amoungst us has not paid for dinner, a movie, or an expensive gift in pursuit of later and sensual reward?" ~ Michael Laws, Sunday Star Times, July 23, 2006, pg C9

At first, I thought Michael Laws was talking solely about prostitution, but then his second sentence on dating and gift giving sprang into focus. Laws is attempting to equate prostitution with men's pursuit of women generally. For the sole reward of sex, it seems. Shallow, very shallow...

-----------------------------------------------------

"wangawoman" said @ 6:56pm, 27/07/2006.

A friend of Michael Laws' common-law wife asked her how on earth she could bear children to this creature (and by implication engage in the acts leading to that) let alone lend some credence to his "happy family" women's magazine image. Her reply was enlightening: "It's the best-paid job I've ever had". So he continues to perpetuate his own sick view of relationships, with her active collaboration.

This blog and its posters are getting more desperate and personal - see the unsourced comment from the so-called "friend" of the mayoress.

They're obviously in love, and everytime I've seen them in public - with or without their daughter - they touch & kiss. against all the other dysfunctional relationships out there and all the broken relationships in Wangas, it is niice to see one that works.

Re the book of Laws Love, it was written by the fragrant Leonie (who certainly knows a well-paid sinecure when she sees one, judging by her contribution to the regional council) and published by Laws's publishing company, whatever it's called, oh yes, Darius Press. You know, the one that published ML's "bestsellers", which probably explains why no one has read it. I imagine that if you find the Vanity Publishing section of your local branch of Pointless Books, it will be in the remainder bin with a sticker saying "please take me".

Jealousy is the motivation of many esp the lumpish, misshapen losers who post on this blog.

Anonymous said...

This mornings news on More FM it was stated by Mickey that he and Leonie were most likley the first couple in Wanganui to be affected by the paediatric problems here. Plus the cost of travel.

Well Mickey just how are you affected?

It is well known that Leonie is/was going to have the baby in Palmerston north as she did with your first one.
The cost of travel in this case is your choice.

It would appear to me that the report this morning was just another piece of Mickey's publicity bullshit .

Whereas no level of desperation at all is indicated by Mickey's defenders doing so on the basis of the supposed physical appearance and wealth of his opponents?

Now, if you'll excuse us, we have some bell-ringing to do...

Sanctuary, Esmeralda.....Actually anon, the reason I post on here is not jealousy. Whatever you think of Michael and Leonie, as far as I am concerned, even the tide wouldn't take either of them out, so it's not jealousy. The main reason I post here is because it allows me to comment on Michael Laws's more egregious fuck-ups and blatant lies. What brings you here? The opportunity to anonymously get on your knees and *ahem* pay lip-service to the Capo di Tutti Capi? Such slavish devotion....There are some politicians I admire, but I don't go onto websites concerning them to lavish fawning praise on them. I leave that to the lickspittle likes of your good self.

MICKEY'S LIES AND STIRRING EXPOSED IN PALMY PAPER AND ON STUFF WEBSITE:

Meltdown fears over patient influx unfounded
11 August 2006

By JANINE RANKIN

Locum cover at Wanganui Hospital may stem the predicted tide of sick children needing care at Palmerston North Hospital while Wanganui's sole paediatrician is on six weeks' leave.
Whanganui District Health Board chair Patrick O'Connor is calling for cool heads and chief executive Memo Musa says nothing has changed for Wanganui patients despite mayor Michael Laws repeating claims Wanganui patients will stretch Palmerston North Hospital maternity services to breaking point.

Have we got this right?

Looks like Mickey and his Missus wanted to book an elective surgical delilvery between council meeting rounds (so he can play father of the year - and what a good line it will make for Wimmin's Daze).

They probably figure that after offending most of Wanganui and Hawkes Bay this sort of thing is best done out of town, and Palmy's not far away when you've got a ratepayer-funded MickeyMobile so they book in there (no doubt with the same gynae that brought us Lucy)

"Complications" develop but not so serious as to jeopardise his casting vote and scary stare at the visionary cowards at Monday's council meeting -- so naturally Missus Mayor is shipped down the line to said gynae by royal appointment.

Mickey finds himself in danger of being left in Stirrer Solomon's smoke so he then tries to turn his little piece of domestic fiction into a further beat-up on our local hospital.

This farce wouldn't even make the grade as a Shortland Street plotline, would it Mickey?

It seems a bit strange that our mayor should be jumping up and down about parents' (his) right to access paediatricians in Wanganui when only a couple of weeks ago he was telling parents to keep their at-risk children out of our schools and calling them fascist idiots etc.

Surely if he's silly enough to have a concubine with an "at risk" pregnancy he shouldn't expect to have access to any public health services where she might inconvience those nice normal people with nice normal pregnancies?

Or is he perhaps being a fascist idiot and baby nutter?
