The who and the how
They are a secretive little lot, aren't they?
For who they are, see the Vision Wanganui web site.
A look at their code reveals an email: info@visionwanganui.co.nz. Alternatively, why not simply ask someone who's already a member? A councillor is the obvious choice - all the candidates were happy enough to have their telephone numbers published during the campaign. However, we won't do that here - though they can still be found on the back page of this newsletter (Adobe Acrobat's free reader required to view).
Or you could try the contact page on their "old" site - the one they had when they were pretending to be interested in what anyone else thought.
The new site merely goes on (and on) about what a great lot they are. A clear commitment to open, transparent democracy. Not.
If you're looking for some humorous bedtime reading, their democracy policy is here.
Talking of democracy, if you haven't already don't forget to vote in our poll.

What part of their democracy policy haven't they enacted? Its scarier that they told Wanganui exactly what they were going to do pre-election, and then did it. In other words they warned Wangas, and Wangas signed up. Now I understand why my mates were so upset on election night.
The only election Laws will ever win is in a three (or more) way split. And did we ever have one of those.

I wasn't upset as such on election night. I'd hoped John Martin would win, and wished Chas hadn't stood, but I thought Laws would probably do a reasonable job. And, well, you know what happened then. Only 2 years to go.
two years and counting....
I wouldn't bet on him losing. the oldies love him and there are more of them than us.
"The oldies love him." I keep on hearing this yet I know quite a few "oldies" and they don't love him at all. Don't believe everything Graham Adams says.
They might not love him when he sells Wanganui Gas to fund his 'big projects'.
Surprise, surprise!
According to the Chron, the port meeting has been postponed from tomorrow to Thursday. Can that possibly have anything to do with the fact that tomorrow is Laws-free Wednesday at Guyton St and Michael doesn't want to miss the chance to further savage Tuffy Churton et al?
It's Don McGregor's last meeting as harbour chair so let's hope he goes out in a blaze of glory by crushing Laws' nuts if he gets out of line and tries to give Churton the pitball treatment.
McGregor says in the Chron today that the port issue will not be predetermined but you have to ask if he hasn't already rolled over and put his legs in the air by changing the meeting date so it doesn't clash with the Diva's Auckland tv schedule?
And what about the Colin Cashmore plan that's also on the agenda? Is the Diva a mate of Cashmore, does anyone know?
It's a 50-50 split:
Cr Don McGregor (Chair)
Cr Randhir Dahya
Cr Nicki Higgie
Mayor Michael Laws
Cr Marty Lindsay
Cr Sue Westwood
So with the almost inevitable absense of mythic Marty, who was rumoured to be a Wanganui District councillor at one time, that would leave diVision with a 3-2 problem unless the Don plays ball. Or is Laws relying on a 3-3 split sending the decision to full council. Will he use his mayoral extra vote? You get double the democracy with the Diva - he even gets two votes.
You seriously misread McGregor and
Dahya - they might not be diVision but they're as opposed to the Port of Wanga people as anybody else. It's about credibility for them & Churton should never have fronted this whole business. Bad tactics.
Yeah I think we're getting a bit hung up over the Vision councillors. It was the five others (the returning ones) who all either voted against or opposed the Sarjeant extension BEFORE the election. It's not 7-6 or even 8-5 (Cr Rangi). It's 13-nil.
