Straight from the horse's mouth?
Oh dear, the LawsWatch cave has a certain amount of Eggs Baker-Hogan on its crystal ball this morning following confirmation of rumours served up here several weeks ago that diVision’s sportiest chick is trying out for the Diva-coxed boat.
We wish to assure readers that certain Watchers have been confined to clear-cutting duties while they spend time in the Cave’s veterinary department being re-educated by our equine specialists about which end of the horse is the horse’s mouth and which end is the diVision mouth. However, the re-education of these miscreants won't be confined to blackboard theory, as they will be required to do shovel duty at Guyton Street to complete their training.
Meanwhile, we hope that Baker-Hogan had her tongue firmly in cheek (and leave Watchers to judge which end of the horse’s anatomy we are referring to) when she told the Chron:
"… I’m an independent and strong person and would never shy away from expressing my own opinion… "Now that sounds to us a lot like something straight from the mouth of her fellow District Health Boarder Rangi Wills who, since slipping around the council table under the Ratepayers’ Association horse cover has shown growing confusion about which way his nag is facing. In fact, most race-days he even saddles up to start under diVision colours.
And on the subject of Cr Wills, who straggled past the DHB finishing post in the 2004 Election Stakes with just 2761 votes compared to Baker-Hogan’s first place with 4395, we also note Baker-Hogan’s comments that:
"The district’s health concerns were another factor, in my decision. I believe a much closer link must be forged between the health board and the district council."Can this mean she doesn’t rate Cr Wills’ form very highly, even as the front-running stalking horse for the diVision stable?

When do Vision have their leadership elections. Is Mickey the leader for life?
anon (on previous post):
"She (Brookhammer) rocks and she's better looking than 99% of the rest."
Okay, we know Mickey thinks elected representatives and council staff are engaged in some sort of beauty contest so why didn't he pick Brookhammer instead of Baker-Hogan. Hard for him to wriggle on that one, surely.
Regarding the "Arts candidate" nastiness coming from diVision. Why on earth would anyone connected with the arts want to stand for Wanganui District Council? Until the last local election, local artists and arts-lovers had thought that they were valued and welcomed members of this community. Michael Laws has disabused us of that notion. We are bludgers and elitists, Wanganui doesn't support us or our aims. The notion that Councillors would go into bat for the entire community instead of themselves has similarly been shown wanting. They have not the slightest intention of protecting the Sarjeant collection, which goes a long way to providing our town with a unique flavour.
Without a strong arts community, Wanganui will become Palmerston North with older sports facilities. Wait and see.
Suggestions for diVision campaign slogans:
"If you don't understand it, destroy it.
"I've got the brains, you've got the looks, let's spend all their money!"
"Look THERE GOES ELVIS!!!!!!"
Baker-Hogan will be hard to beat.
I'm surprised not only that Laws Watch got it wrong about Baker-Hogan but also that they advanced the idea that Horizons councillor Brookhammer would stand. The law specifically precludes such an arrangement in that you can't be both a regional AND city/district councillor. You can be everything else like an MP or health board member but not a regional councillor.
I wouldn't have been the only one to wonder if Brookhammer was about to get out of the Horizons kitchen (or sandwich bar) since she obviously can't stand the heat.
And it will no doubt be considerably hotter for her when she next makes a rate appearance in the meeting room.
The eye-rolling tolerance she has been shown so far around the table is unlikely to survive her latest ignorant outburst -- even if her hubbie did write it for her.
May I make a suggestion, LW?
The "miscreants" sentenced to re-education on matters of equine anatomy could do some community service duty on the end of a shovel or two at the River Donkey premiere.
Someone is going to have to keep that red carpet clear of diVision horse-shit so unsuspecting guests down return home with their shoes covered in unpleasant political smells.

We received the information from a normally reliable source who claimed to have heard it from the horse's mouth, as it were. Assuming that's correct, it bespeaks of a last-minute change of mind, perhaps in response to some serious cajoling when no one else remotely "electable" would throw their hat in the ring. (Well, having completely stuffed the original story, mixed metaphors are the least of our worries).
...but also that they advanced the idea that Horizons councillor Brookhammer would stand. The law specifically precludes such an arrangement...
Not guilty on that particular count, anonymous. Our speculation was that the recent spray directed at Horizons (and the slap delivered in return) could be a precursor to a huff-driven resignation and then the WDC candidacy. But alas that's moot now anyway.
B-H will be hard to beat but on the bright side she might even give Mickey a run for his money, heard she's a hard woman to clash with.
joan street(fondly named `you stupid woman` last week by the mayor) says:-
`i think ml is once again so shrewd in reading the `populist` mind-phillipa is KNOWN so she must be good-
ml doesn`t care for man nor beast but the ordinary struggling-to-put-food-on-the-table person will go for this`
After a year of suffering Dotty's incompetence perhaps he's looking to ditch her and replace her with Baker-Hogan.
Baker-Hogan is a much better candidate than you Bob. Never mind, as they say, always the bridesmaid
