Meanwhile, Morgs, in true budding politician mode, is practising a "neither confirm nor deny" policy as to his candidacy, and says an announcement is pending on his website tomorrow. More as it comes to hand, as they pay Simon Dallow a fortune to read off a screen much like the one you're looking at.

Perhaps the mayor could shoulder tap our lady mayoress for the Vision ticket.
After all her Horizons-lite duties should leave plenty of time for a bit of WDC stirring on the side.

I suppose you think we need a Splash candidate, and a velodrome candidate too, whereas what we need is someone who promotes Wanganui opposed to themselves, who puts aside their personal feelings and governs for the benefit and promotion of the city.
Someone who isn't an anal retentive megalomaniac will do just fine, in other words. Whoever stands next to Michael Laws won't get elected, that's for sure.

Listen up, anon. Her job at WDC would not be to stir. She'd just be another eye fluttering acolyte trained to raise her right arm in sync with Dotty & Nicki and co when given the signal.
Any possibilities for stirring in the manner to which she is accustomed have already been taken. Higgie has assumed the "council shouldn't be supplying lunch" portfolio and the mayor has the "all councillors are a waste of money" portfolio.
Mind you there's one job which she might be well qualified for: the mayoral nappy-changer.

The comments on the $ was harsh, anon. The mayor gives his mayoral salary to the community incl spending $10K on commissioned works by local artists.
Vision still have to find a candidate. Laws has already approached people who've turned him down. Think Bob'll beat Marion? Doubt it. Campion and Simmonds will both take votes away from Mickey.

Re the Auckland City report that our mayor so stupidly misrepresented. This looks like an attempt by council officers to inject a bit of fiscal reality into the monument-building fantasies of elected "servants" of the people.
A similar thing happened here a few weeks ago, didn't it? The CFO gave a pretty straightforward warning about rising and unsustainable debt costs and what happened?
Crs Westwood and Bullock got the proverbial mayoral tennis ball stuffed in their gobs when they tried to get a discussion going and the class bully told them in no uncertain terms that it wasn't significant in terms of the legislation.
The difference between Lawsville and the Big Auck, where the Chronicle's mothership hovers and keeps the buggers honest, is that such matters get reported there.
I don't know about Bob ... how about Bill Smith or Mr Hita or even Mr Tuki?

The candidates declared (and likely to declare) so far will do a great job of splitting the Right/Conservative vote: ie
Anderson, Campion, Simmonds, Morgs and whichever one-legged donkey puts on the Vision colours.
That leaves Frog to romp home on the basis of a desperate yet united Left (& substance abuser) vote, doesn't it?

I'm told that Morgs has applied for position within Council... as a member of staff not as a member of Council. Either he is doing both (an interesting scenario!) or someone has got their rumours back to front.
Councils (up and down the land) have been told they need to start budgeting for the upkeep and possible replacement of assets, a consideration where no such bookkeeping previously exsisted. This has to be listed in the LTCCP and will greatly "up" the amount Councils need to bring in each year. Next years rate rise will do well to stay below double figures.

Like, it's never too soon to start the setting up the smokecreen because we stuffed up with the "zero rates rise" this year and all that deferred maintenance is going to bite us on the bum next year ... not to mention my grand plans and bullshit list blowing out capex and debt servicing.
So, it's time to start a bit of hysterical fingerpointing and raving about the LTCCP - which of course won't be understood by most of the punters anyway.
As mickey learnt with his mother's milk, you can fool most of the people most of the time and the LTCCP is an essential tool for dishonest politicians.

I can't believe this is new information - funding depreciation was an issue of debate five years ago when I was on Council. It does'nt make much sense as many assets would simply not be replaced when they are worn out eg a War Memorial Hall.
