Do not adjust your set II

Blogger.com (LawsWatch's home on the web, in case you're wondering) has been behaving somewhat oddly of late. First it began showing a blank page, then yesterday could not be reached at all. Most of these outages are not confined to LawsWatch but also affect other blogs on the network. Our apologies to our readers - most of these problems are outside of our control, though we work with Blogger.com engineers to fix things as quickly as possible on those few occasions when we can do anything to help.

Further problems today - though we suspect an errant Watcher with finger trouble rather than net-based gremlins this time - resulted in a whole raft of comments on the last post being inadvertently deleted. However, in a bit of smoke-and-mirrors trickery which would make a Spin Fairy blush, we've recovered the text of, we hope, all of them, which we've numbered because the original posting times were lost:

1. Patrick a cool chick? A cool chick my arse. She's a control freak with a talent for well-placed bottom licking. And buying DVDs with subtitles for the library does not mean you're suited to the position of Cultural Manager. Dell has experience in libraries and museums, and the Dewey Decimal System is taught to primary school children for Christ's Sake, and is hardly a mental challenge. The librarians Patrick hires are a case in point.
LW note: We were being slightly facetious in referring to the Dewey Decimal System, we admit. It was about the most complex aspect of running a library we could think of, and to be honest, eludes the memory of most Watchers when hunting for a book. Thank goodness for computerised catalogues.
2. Nicky (bless her) said:
"With lots of out-of-towners having already booked tickets, it's up to us locals to be in as well and so to ensure another crowd-pulling concert next year."
Brief translation: we're gearing up to provide underwriting for this event, despite promising that we wouldn't, because we haven't sold enough tickets.

3. Sally Patrick is the "Cultural Manager" with Sharon Dell as her 2IC. So where does that leave Bill Milbank? Shafted, big time, I'd say. I have heard that Bill was not notified of the "meeting" or "hosted briefing" (read: uninvited). As for having Dot & Co. as "Friends of the Sarjeant" all I can say is JAYSUS.

4. Oh for goodness sake ! Laws for all his shortcomings, was elected saying he would do this sort of thing! Seems they are there to make decisions and delegate roles and they are doing it... I would like the great unwashed consulted a little more though... that Community Survey comes to mind...what happened to that?

5. anon 8:58 said Good point about Milbank and Dell too by anon (8.24pm). With one senior manager you don't need three middle managers and its all been done within the 2005/6 budget so savings must be being made somewhere.

they could curate :)

6. Well well, so the meeting Warburton called made no mention of the Director's job being axed. Yet here it is in the Chron. in black and white. Are the artists representatives who attended Dr. Warburton's little soiree going to now recognise that they have been taken for a ride? When the Sarjeant Gallery has been destroyed you can all console yourselves that you did the right thing. You remind me of people dociley donning oxygen masks with the 'plane burning around you.

7. Wake up dreamers. Michael Laws is out to smash the Sarjeant. Stop compromising with these pricks and do something effective, eh?
  1. Destroy the extension plans
  2. Destroy the Trust Board
  3. Confuse and fragment supporter's groups.
  4. Destroy the management structure.
  5. Destroy the collection.
  6. Now for the opera house.
"Cultured" people don't vote for Mickey. Why would he want them to stay in Wanganui? Still think "they" won't let him get away with it?

Dupe.

Anyone remember Mickey and Nicky's vaunted jaunt down to Wellington to see Helen re: funding preservation of artworks? Why hasn't that happened?

The de-accession policy is still up for review, incidently. Do you suppose in the current climate donors will leave works in the collection while that process gets closer to conclusion?

Does anyone remember the de Coubertin ruckus years ago. Seems to me that whats going down at Queens Park right now is far more contentious, yet I dont yet detect that any blood will be spilled on the ramparts by vociferous opponents like it was over the poor old Baron.
Demolishing the Museum building and building a shiny new replacement- maybe people are just stunned by the stupidity.

Sally and Mickey have more important things to do in Auckland.

What does this mean?
LawsWatch - thought you were going to moderate??

Oh my. Such vitriol - one almost wonders if there’s a hint of Museum or (soon-to-be-annexed) UCOL library in that tirade.
My bet is on the former.

it would be good to see a lot of people at the sarjeant this evening

Very quiet these days!
Over zealous moderating or watchers realising that the Mayor is good for wanganui?

Laws Watch said...

We're moderating as per normal, anon. Yes, it has been quiet of late but more due to people becoming confused by the regular outages than the mist becoming thick enough to fool people. By all means keep your fingers crossed, though.

Anon @ 8.39 - we saw nothing improper in that comment. It would seem they do have better things to do than worry about conserving art etc. What that might be, we can only speculate - "deaccessioning" perhaps (i.e. flogging some off to wealthy JAFAs). No other connotation should be taken nor, we hope, was meant.

Or realising you can't debate with people who fudge the truth and conceal their intentions?

Hot tip for ya - heard some rumblings that none other than wyckiddie morgs hunter is going to run for the empty council spot this by-election.

Youth council not good enough for him, wants to play with the big boys?

Anonymous said...

excellent idea-he is intelligent and a free agent

Anonymous said...

You are joking?? Morgs for Council? The non-political person? Somebody tell him to stay home and play with his toys. He would be way out of his depth.

Anonymous said...

If Morgs is likely to be "out of his depth" that should be no barrier to election. This is a council of dog paddlers(ie Dotty), belly floppers (ie Higgie)and "star fish" (ie Marty) and underwater specialists (Rangi).

Only Bullock and Westwood seem able to complete a length of the pool and during his brief sprint, "GK" was a star stroker for the Laws team.

Why not give Morgs a shot. He might yet turn out to be a dive-bomber.

Anonymous said...

Dive-bomber alright. He is too young and idealistic and full of himself and has no idea. Maybe in 10 years.

...He is too young and idealistic and full of himself and has no idea...

Sounds like another perfect Vision candidate for Mickey to lie to and manipulate like Higgie. Or do you take the view that she knew what was happening all along?
