Three days and counting...
Over at LawsWatch polls, there's not a great deal of change in the party vote poll, with three days to go and counting. The sample size is 67, which is probably larger than that rogue "seven percent leap for the Nats" Sunday Star Time effort managed, but still not large enough for us to venture a prediction.
So if you haven't already voted, please click the link above and do so. There are other polls there as well - you can vote and check the current results - including the by-election and the "DIY referendum", all of which we'll update here shortly.
Party vote totals are currently:
- 99 MP Party 0%
- ACT New Zealand 0%
- Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party 0%
- Christian Heritage New Zealand 0%
- Destiny New Zealand 1%
- Direct Democracy Party 3%
- Jim Anderton's Progressive 1%
- Libertarianz 3%
- Mâori Party 4%
- New Zealand Family Rights Protection Party 0%
- New Zealand First Party 3%
- New Zealand Labour Party 51%
- One New Zealand Party 0%
- Outdoor Recreation NZ 0%
- The Alliance 7%
- The Greens 18%
- The New Zealand Democratic Party for Social Credit 0%
- The New Zealand National Party 7%
- The Republic of New Zealand Party 0%
- United Future New Zealand 0%
Not a single vote for the Legalise Cannabis Party, yet people claim members of the arts community visit the blog? ;-)
And on the MP front:
- Jill Pettis - Labour 57%
- Chester Borrows - National 31%
- Debbie Lucas - Progressive 3%
- John Milnes - Greens 5%
- Undecided 0%
- Won't vote 3%
- In Te Tai Hauauru 1%
The overall "didn't vote" total will be an interesting one. Comments overheard by Laws Watchers in various parts of our great nation indicate marked ennui, uncertainty, or outright hostility to the political process and particularly the players within it.
A case of being uncertain as to whether we should change horse's arses in midstream, perhaps.
We'd ask for your predictions (both for Whanganui and nationally), though since everyone is resolutely anonymous it seems a little self-defeating, but feel free...
And while we remain resolutely neutral on matters nationally political (heck, we kicked around enough for our views on local happenings) the Make Your Own National Billboard site has some absolute gems. And some not-so-sparkling "wit" too, so put your rude word filters on before clicking. You have been warned.

I advocate a "none of the above" option added to the voting form. If this option gains a majority of the votes then each party would need to put up a new candidate and the vote would be reheld.
Of course it is distinctly possible no one would ever be voted into office again ever....
You're forgetting the biggest political party of them all: bureaucrats.
