Deflated ambition

From NewstalkZB:

The outcome of the election in Tauranga has been blown wide open, according to a Bay of Plenty Times opinion poll. The Times Insight poll of voters shows a third of people have yet to decide which party they will vote for, but among those who have made up their minds, 26 percent are backing National, 18 percent would vote Labour, and New Zealand First is well down the list with 10 percent support.

The results may reflect the high profile of Winston Peters' key opponent, National candidate Bob Clarkson. Nicknamed by some 'Bob the Builder', Mr Clarkson is a self-made millionaire who, among other things, bankrolled the huge Blue Chip stadium, home of speedway races and rugby games.

Interestingly, the Bay of Plenty Times is a sister paper to the Chron, but seems not only to be on top of the news but ahead of it.

If the Diva does have a cosy pozzy on Winnie's list, the prospect of The Even Greater One losing his grip must be sending chills right down to the lycra shorts.

Winnie has always been able to deflect questions on his desperate ambition by claiming to be "happy to be the Member for Tauranga", and held sway over his Caucus partly through an unspoken implication that he was elected by the people whereas the rest of his ragtag mob were mere List MPs, and thus clearly owed their positions at the public trough to him.

He's been being warned since at least 1993 - by loyal and knowledgeable people on the ground - that he couldn't keep taking Tauranga for granted. Now those predictions are coming through in the polls, we suspect the previously somewhat rigid Member may be feeling a little flaccid.

You're on acid Lawswatch.
Peters will piss in at Tauranga,
Laws has already told the national media he's not interested in any party list (heard it on Newstalk ZB months ago) and its time surely to concentrate on the real local contest - the absent Pettis versus Hawera-based Borrows.

Winston looked like a complete heel last night - no-one buys his bullshit anymore. Just like someone else we know, eh?.

The slide in Winston First's fortunes can almost be tracked to the day the "Diva on the list" rumour came out.

We don't dispute the importance of this contest but have our work cut out reporting upon the Diva's doings. The only reason this post was considered relevant was because we've heard from various sources including a member of the Tauranga NZ First electorate committee that the Diva is on the list.

Of course, anything could happen between now and whenever it's finally released, including a last-minute withdrawal, thus allowing for the denial of it ever having been considered in the first place.

We could go so far as to speculate that one of the reasons the release of the list is being held back is because one or more of the star candidates can't make up their minds whether or not to be on it...

Is Brent Todd on the list?

If Winston loses Tauranga (please God/Allah/Jehovah/Shiva/Thor/The Faeries) wouldn't it be just peachy if the Diva could step into his shoes by taking Wangas, though? All those rednecks with nowhere to go. Sob.

Dream on, wankers.

When I was just a young man,
Your mother told me: Son,
Always be a good boy don't you vote for that Winston,
But I stood in Wanganui,
I just had to try,
I had elected office: I hang my head and cry.

When I own Wanganui,
When that electorate seat is mine,
I'll move old Winnie on a little further down the line,
Yes I'll betray the hand that fed me,
I don't give a stuff,
And I'll stuff up Wanganui,
Until they've had enough!

Lawswatch is inventing a source.
A member of NZ First's Tauranga committee told you ... sure they did. What a liar!!

Have it your way, anonymous. After all, it was only one of the Watcher's brother-in-law. He must have been a figment of our imagination. Oooo look, The Watcher's sister just vanished too!!

must be 100% true then.....

I'd say that if Laws said it on a nationally syndicated radio show (Holmes breakfast) then yeah it probably it is a true statement of his position. He didnt come here to play bum boy to NZ First - read his autobio, that much is obvious.

If Laws told a lie to Paul Holmes, no-one was listening, and it was for our own good anyway.

Shit you're a wanker. No evidence at all and you decide the mayor has to be on the NZF list. Why would he want to go to parliament when he enjoys (along with the rest of us) upsetting all you arts apes so much?

It's a rumour, fool. One that is clearly irritating you.

Here's another rumour then dickhead. Matt Dutton and Carol Webb are really running this blog.

Matt Dutton said...

No, we aren't. But thanks for the compliment.
