Flagging it II
Perhaps LawsWatch could have a competition to design a suitable flag for Vision!
...said one of the anonymii. Here's our best effort. Those who fancy themselves of an artistic bent might like to email their efforts to lawswatch-at-hotmail-dot-com and we'll post them here, and those who don't can describe their imaginings in comments (keep it PG13 in both cases, please).
Update: Another entry has arrived:
Update II: And another (our favourite so far):

Vision run Wanganui. with the democratic support of Wanganui.
You losers rage impotently on the sideline.
Yeah -
Wanganui = d-i-c-k-e-d by d-i-V-i-s-i-o-n
diVision = d-i-c-k-e-d by the d-i-V-a
Haven't lost anything actually. Hoping John Martin might win the by-election though. Impotent? Just when you thought it was safe to go to the gold coast, eh?
Maybe Laws watch could offer these flags for the by-election Vision campaign, Putting the honesty and humor back into the mix!
John Martin would be a great candidate. Supports the Sarjeant extension and opposed to the nil rates increase. Oops - that's a populist campaign isn't it?
Sorry John's a businessman, he would not support any project unless it could pay for it's self.
I think he would just bring a sense of honesty back to the council table.
When I heard John was retired I thought ohhh...
but then I heard he retired at 49.
That put a whole new perspective on it.
On the other hand, this being Wanganui, perhaps it's all a rumour.
No, he was quoted in Dave Laurence's article as supporting the extension (that was also his pre-election promise) and opposing the nil rates increase. Those vision guys will use that against him, esp with the older ratepayers.
Isn't retired just another word for redundant?
We don't have a "nil" rates increase.
I don't see how we can expect people to want to reverse the urban population drift if we're not prepared to invest in Whanganui. We have to have top-line facilites in all areas, and we have to work our asses off to raise the funds to do it. Divisive propaganda doesn't help.
I can't see how attacking JM for being "retired" is going to help you win support among our elders, but go for your life.
Retired at 49 is way different to retired at 65.
JM is very active in lots of organisations around town and is making a big contribution by way of mentoring, advising etc. He may be retired from the international business scene but he's putting a lot into Wanganui and beyond.
You people don't really understand the Vision strategy though. It's simple, yet effective and strangely compelling: in order to save Wanganui, we must destroy everything that has gone before. Eventually, 2004 will become known as Year Zero.
